Gut-Skin Axis

The gut-skin axis is the communication network between your gut microbiome and your skin barrier. When gut dysbiosis (microbiome imbalance) or intestinal permeability occurs, bacterial toxins like LPS endotoxins can enter the bloodstream. This triggers systemic inflammation, which signals the skin to overproduce sebum, clog pores, and flare up with acne, redness, or sensitivity.

Many people notice changes within 4 to 8 weeks of consistent daily use, as the gut microbiome rebalances and systemic inflammation begins to settle. Timelines vary by individual, and visible skin changes typically follow after internal inflammation markers improve.

Yes, for many people. Topical treatments only address surface-level bacteria and dead skin cells. If your breakouts are driven by internal inflammation, low stomach acid, or an unbalanced microbiome, topical products alone often can't reach the root cause — which is why pairing topical care with gut support is a common approach for stubborn, recurring breakouts.

To target the gut-skin axis effectively, look for formulations containing:

• Multi-strain probiotics (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains) to restore gut microbial diversity
• L-glutamine & zinc to support and repair the mucosal intestinal lining
• Digestive enzymes to support complete nutrient breakdown and reduce gut fermentation
